Skanco has begun installing technical hardware for Commonwealth Youth Games
Local IT services provider Skanco Business Systems Ltd has begun preparations for the fourth Commonwealth Youth Games, which are being held on the Island between the 7th and 13th of September.
Skanco, in partnership with the Government’s Information Systems Division (ISD), is providing the organisers with the IT hardware necessary to ensure the event runs smoothly. This includes providing free laptops and PCs for the large staff of volunteers as well as free support and maintenance. The set up and tear down are extremely intensive and time sensitive processes, which have required careful planning by the IT supplier.
They are currently installing the hardware, which is comprised of some 32 units. David Butterworth, the Managing Director of Skanco, commented on the progress made thus far: “We are very proud to be playing our part with the Commonwealth Youth Games. The logistics of coordinating such a large scale operation are intricate but we are well on top of things. Everything is running smoothly and we are looking forward to the start of the Games.”
The company has a long history of supporting sport and youth initiatives on the Island. Over the years they have supported hockey, rugby, football and sailing. They also regularly provide sports kits for primary school football and netball teams.
Skanco are supplying these services in conjunction with ISD, which provides a complete range of information technology services to all Government departments. David commented on the partnership: “As a company we are well suited to dealing with this sort of large, demanding project because of the high number of engineers in our technical team. As we work with ISD on a daily basis, we integrate with them easily. The combination of our IT offerings has proven very successful.”
