Island's Marketing Community Invited To Attend Chartered Institute's Centenary

by isleofman.com 12th September 2011
The Island’s branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing will be celebrating in style on Thursday 22nd September with a birthday party being held at The Mailbox, in Douglas, to mark the Institute’s centenary – and all of the Island’s marketers are invited along. The evening promises to be fun and light-hearted, giving the Island’s marketing professionals the chance to mingle and network over drinks and good food. The event is free, and has been kindly sponsored by Bridson and Horrox, Isle of Man Advertising and PR, and yourwebvideo.com. As well as a party bag to go away with, guests will also be in with a chance to win a copy of the Institute’s latest book, written especially to mark this one hundred year landmark, ‘The Marketing Century’. Gavin Smith, Chair of the Isle of Man Branch of the CIM said, “CIM Isle of Man is more renowned for running professional development events, courses and qualifications; but we thought that with the Institute having reached the impressive landmark of being 100 years old, it would be nice to celebrate by arranging an informal get-together for the Island’s marketers. “We continue to work hard locally to raise the profile of both CIM and marketing as a profession, as well as continuing to provide the Island’s marketers with the tools and skills they need both now and in the future. The birthday bash is a great opportunity for those who are new to marketing to come along, find out more and network, as well as letting more seasoned professionals catch up with friends and colleagues. If you’re involved in or interested in marketing, please come along - it promises to be a great night.” The Institute was founded on 16th May 1911, when 12 individuals met at the Inns of Court Hotel in London and created a new professional association - the Sales Managers’ Association. The name changed to the Institute of Marketing and Sales Management in 1961 and again in 1968 to become The Institute of Marketing. The name changed to its current form in 1989 when Her Majesty the Queen awarded the Institute a Royal Charter. The Chartered Institute of Marketing is now the world’s leading and largest organisation for marketers, and is headquartered in the UK. Pre-booking for the free Centenary Celebration is required, which can be done online via the CIM website http://www.cim.co.uk/Events/EventDetail.aspx?ObjectID=42445 or by contacting CIM via e-mail on cimevents@cim.co.uk or by phone on 01628 427340.
