Commonwealth Youth Games Closing Ceremony - Revised Timetable

REVISED TIMETABLE AS AT 4PM TODAY: DEPENDENT ON WEATHER We plan to hold an event again aimed at primarily satisfying our athletes From 5pm to 7 pm we will have a barbecue but because of weather conditions we have transferred this indoors to the Villa Marina. All Athletes ,Officials and VIPs have been invited. At 7pm all will be invited to go outside into the gardens to watch Steve Colley perform motor cycle tricks for 30 mins At 7-35 His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor will arrive through the Broadway entrance. The Chief Minister the Honourable Tony Brown and I will meet him with Juliet Holt and escort him to the Villa building and introduce him to the President, and Vice Presidents and Vui Tapasu Leung of Samoa (no formal line-just an informal introduction) The Athletes and officials will be assembled on the promenade roadway into their nations,. The nations themselves will decide on the person to carry their name placard- they will not carry national flags. The majority of VIPs will be asked to watch from the Colonnade balcony whilst His Excellency, the President, Minister Cretney, Mrs Holt, and Vui Tapasu Leung, the President of the Samoan National Olympic Committee, and Geoff Karran the Chairman of the OC, will be escorted to the balcony over the Villa Marina building. Chairs and a lecturn will be in position with a microphone on a stand. Mrs Holt will carry the Quaich There will be 2 MC s both Manx Radio employees- John Moss ( also on the OC) and Chris Williams. At 8pm the nations will march the short distance around the Villa building and re-enter through the Broadway entrance. On reaching the gardens they will be asked to assemble in the sports thus showing the friendship created during the Games. As soon as the teams have assembled Minister Cretney will be introduced to speak on behalf of the people of the Isle of Man Mr President will be introduced and will reply. The MC to announce that the Quaich, the symbol of the Games and which is a Bowl of Friendship will now be passed over to Samoa and will also announce the inscription on the Quaich. Mrs Holt will hand it to Minister Cretney who will hand it to the President. The President will then hand to Vui Tapasu Leung. Mr Leung will then speak and make a presentation to Geoff Karran as Chairman of the OC. This will be a Tanoa which is a symbol of peace and unity. It is not intended to have any ceremonial lowering of the CGF flag on this occasion. Mr Leung will then introduce the fire dancers of Samoa. The formal part of the ceremony will be completed by Mr Fennell declaring the IVth Commonwealth Games closed and requesting the youth of the Commonwealth to meet in Samoa in 2015 It is hoped the whole ceremony will be over by 8-30 and the MCs will then invite the athletes and officials to go into the Royal Hall for a party.- with groups playing , and soft drinks provided. His Excellency will depart at 8-35. VIPs will be invited informally to return to the Sefton for a drink and canapes with the OC in the Atrium of the hotel. The Firework display scheduled for 10-45 has been cancelled because of the weather At 10-30 in the Sefton Geoff Karran will close the proceedings with thanks and in the Villa Marina the MCs will close the proceedings That will be the conclusion of the IVth Commonwealth Games and we hope our friends around the world will go home with happy memories of their time here ENDS
