NSC Re-opens After hosting CYG

by isleofman.com 13th September 2011
Following the Commonwealth Youth Games the National Sports Centre in Douglas is getting back to normal with the first facilities re-opening to the public this evening (Tuesday). Management and staff wish to thank customers for their patience and understanding over the past couple of weeks while both indoor and outdoor facilities at the NSC were prepared for and hosted the Commonwealth Youth Games. From 4pm today, the following facilities will resume normal service – the outdoor section; the championship pool for lane swimming; the sports halls for casual and club bookings; the fitness zone and health suite; and the squash centre. Maintenance work is taking place in the indoor bowls facility, which will remain closed until further notice, along with the leisure pool. NSC manager Carl Glover explained: ‘Unfortunately we have a significant amount of work to do before the leisure pool can re-open to customers. Additional spectator seating for the swimming competition was erected over the leisure pool. This has been dismantled and we are starting to re-fill the pool but it will be a couple of days before the water warms up to a comfortable temperature. We are hoping it can re-open at the weekend and pre-school swimming will take place from Monday (19 September).’ The junior swimming lesson programme will recommence at 4pm tomorrow (Wednesday). The Bowl stadium will reopen after essential maintenance, including line painting, on 3 October. Please check the NSC’s website for updates on all the facilities: www.gov.im/sport/nsc ENDS
