Work to improve the pedestrian facilities on Prospect Hill between Ridgeway Street and Upper Nelson Street are scheduled to commence on 17 September 2011. This work is the second regeneration project in Douglas and will enhance this important gateway into the town centre.
The Prospect Hill regeneration works will be carried out between Saturday 17 September and Tuesday 18 October 2011 and involve the replacement of the concrete paving in front of the HSBC Bank and the central island refuge at the Ridgeway Street/Victoria Street/Prospect Hill junction with high quality natural stone paving. During these regeneration works the opportunity will be taken to improve the highway drainage and pedestrian accessibility on this busy route to the town centre from Shaws Brow car park and the business premises adjacent to Athol Street, Upper Church Street and Circular Road.
While these works are in progress Prospect Hill will be subject to the following traffic restrictions:
On the weekend of 17 and 18 September Prospect Hill will be closed to through traffic with town centre-bound traffic diverted via Athol Street, Lord Street, Ridgeway Street and Victoria Street. Bucks Road-bound traffic will be diverted via Loch Promenade, Church Road and Finch Road.
On Sunday 18 September Prospect Hill road will reopen for vehicular traffic travelling towards Bucks Road (out of town only) and drivers seeking to travel on Prospect Hill towards the town centre will be diverted along Athol Street, Lord Street and Ridgeway Street. This temporary one way for vehicular traffic will be in place until the completion of the works on 18 October 2011.
The existing temporary one-way traffic system on Church Street and Barrack Street will be in force throughout these works.
Pedestrian access along Prospect Hill, Ridgeway Street, both sections of Nelson Street and Victoria Street will be maintained throughout these works.
