Department of Social Care Expands Its Services for Adults With a Learning Disability

by isleofman.com 16th September 2011
With effect from 21st September the Department of Social Care will be commencing a psychology service specifically for adults with a learning disability. This new service has only been made possible by the collaborative efforts of Adult and Mental Health Services by bringing together the joint resources essential for such an initiative. In commissioning this service the Department has secured the services of Eileen Sherrard, who is presently a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Psychological Services for the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland. Eileen will be on the Island 2 days per month and will bring much valuable specialist experience in working with people who have a learning disability. As part of this initiative Eileen will be supported in her work on the Island by Joyce MacLaughlin who will provide the necessary continuity between visits. Minister for Social Care Hon Martyn Quayle said: “This represents another positive step forward in the delivery of services to adults with a learning disability and has been achieved within my Department’s existing resources. I express my appreciation to the staff involved and Eileen Sherrard for achieving this innovative solution.” ENDS
