Ramsey Town Commissioners’ Refurbishment of 18 Properties Completed

by isleofman.com 19th September 2011
The refurbishment of 18 Ramsey Town Commissioners’ public sector houses in Brookhill Road and Seamount Road Ramsey has been completed. Upgrading of the houses, which were built in the 1950s, was carried out in partnership with the Department of Social Care through which funding of public sector housing is supported, and included re-roofing, re-rendering, new fences and gates and the installation of uPVC windows and ‘Aluzinc’ rainwater goods, the latter selected for their durability, given the properties’ exposed location. Internal work included new fitted kitchens and bathrooms and rewiring. Lead member for housing and property Mary Bruce said the project had been come in on time and under budget at ?900,000, the capital cost having been projected at ?925,537. She continued: ‘One very positive outcome of the project is that a number of tenants formerly under-occupying these three-bedroom houses were able to be re-housed in smaller units more suitable to their current needs, thereby assisting the Commissioners in managing their housing stock and freeing up accommodation for larger households.’ Mrs Bruce marked the completion of the project by presenting the tenants of newly refurbished 19 Brookhill Road, Marian and Terry Kinnin, with a bouquet of flowers and wishing them every happiness in their new home. The scheme was project managed by Ramsey-based Dalrymple Associates in association with quantity surveyors Magee & Co and engineering and planning supervisors Holmes Grace. The main contractor was NK Joinery Limited. ENDS
