The Family Library is full of great reads but now it is collecting yarns with a difference.
The public is invited to help the Department of Education and Children-run library gather up leftover wool towards its Great Woolly Stash for Cash in aid of the BBC’s Children in Need Appeal.
‘We are organising a sale of small knitted and crocheted creatures, toys and other little items made from bits and bobs of leftover yarn,’ said Mary Cousins, Librarian-in-Charge.
‘Anyone who knits or crochets will know that after every big project, you’re left with stashes of wool that are too small to make into anything other than dolls’ clothes.
‘The library is going to sell leftover yarn throughout October, so donations of small stashes will be welcome, and then throughout November the library is hoping to sell lots of lovely items for pocket-money prices and raise money for Children In Need.’
To donate wool, or purchase it to make an item that can be sold, visit the library in Westmoreland Road during October. Or if you are not feeling creative, you can contribute by popping in to the library in Westmoreland Road, Douglas, during November to buy an item.
The library hosts a wide range of activities and this year staged the first World Championship Knitted and Crocheted Fairycake Competition, which is set to be repeated.
Membership of the Family Library costs ?2 a year for children and ?5 for their parents and members can borrow up to six books three CDs and one DVD at a time. For more information, visit the Family Library’s website at http://www.familylibrary.co.uk/Home.html or ring 673123.
