Commonwealth Youth Games Wins with Skanco

by isleofman.com 29th September 2011
Local IT services provider, Skanco Business Systems Ltd are delighted by the success of the Commonwealth Youth Games, which they supported. Skanco provided the organisers with the computers and laptops which were necessary to ensure the event ran smoothly, in conjunction with the Isle of Man Government’s Information Systems Division (ISD). Mike Henthorn, Sponsorship Coordinator for the Commonwealth Youth Games believes that this was one of the Island’s best events: “The Commonwealth Youth Games has increased awareness of the Island among a very wide audience – with top athletes coming from 64 countries. Skanco have made an instrumental and invaluable contribution to this success by generously providing all of the assistance and hardware that we needed. We’re thrilled to have worked with such a well-established local IT company. Their expertise and willingness to help throughout the event was greatly appreciated.” Miles Shimmin, Deputy Sports Coordinator, commented on the usefulness of the technology: “Skanco provided the laptops and PCs for our tech information centre and other sites, which allowed us to relay the results quickly after each event so that they were available to be viewed worldwide within minutes. The guys at Skanco were brilliant – they were so helpful. Everything was provided on time and to a high standard, which made our job a lot easier. The laptops were also used to play the anthems at medal ceremonies, so they served a multi-purpose for the entire event.” David Butterworth, the Managing Director of Skanco, commented on the company’s decision to support the Games: “I am delighted that we have been able to help support the Games in this way. We are so pleased with the success of the event and would like to extend our congratulations to all of the participants for the way they performed. For years we have focussed on supporting local sport and youth projects, so this was an obvious sponsorship opportunity for us.” David also commented on the results services: “As this is an event that required real time results, we had engineers on call to ensure nothing went wrong during the Games. As a company we are well suited to dealing with this sort of large, demanding project because of the high number of engineers in our technical team.” ENDS
