Staff from Barclays Wealth have raised over ?21,000 for local charities by taking part in this year’s Parish Walk.
A team of over 50 employees from Barclays Wealth entered the walk with the aim of raising money for local charities while getting fit in the process. The 85 mile course passes through every Parish on the Island and walkers’ times are recorded at each Church.
Of the 1,543 walkers who started this year, 159 completed the full 85 miles within the 24 hour allotted time. One of the finishers was Barclays Wealth Service Executive Andrew Corris who walked the course in 23 hours 39 minutes. The Barclays Wealth team wore special high-visibility vests which featured the company and Hospice Isle of Man logos and between them walked a total of 1,837 miles!
A number of local charities were supported by the walkers including the Barclays Wealth Charity of the Year, Hospice Isle of Man which was presented with an impressive donation of ?13,000 by the team. Other charities that were given donations following the Parish Walk include:
Dolittle’s - ?500
Dream Catchers - ?2,000
Liverpool Hospice - ?4,200
MSPCA - ?1,400
Pahar Trust Nepal - ?500
The Parish Walk activities at Barclays Wealth were organised by Suzanna Ogden, Rebecca Stride, Dino Mazzone, June Cannell and Stuart Nelson who encouraged their colleagues to sign-up for the event and organised training walks, sessions with a personal trainer and a talk from Parish Walk legend Jock Waddington.
As well as the Parish Walk the team helped boost funds with cake bakes, treadmill marathon walks and copper coin collections.
Managing Director of Barclays Wealth Isle of Man, Simon Scott said: ‘Well done to everyone who has been involved in the Parish Walk fundraising activities including the supporters on the day itself, everyone who baked those delicious cakes, all treadmill walkers, and everyone who put their hands in their pockets and gave generously. Last but not least, a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the race. The amount of money that has been raised is testament to all the hard work and dedication put into the event.’
