Creaming the Festival

by isleofman.com 3rd October 2011
A partnership of Greeba Farm’s Manx grown mushrooms and Davison’s Manx dairy ice cream was a surprise hit at the Isle of Man Food and Drink Festival, held in the Nunnery gardens last weekend (24th and 25th September). The creamy blend of Manx milk and cream with Greeba Farm’s chestnut mushrooms produced what Ian Davison described as a “spectacular frozen rich mushroom desert”. The idea to create a Manx made mushroom ice cream had started as a bit of a joke but once a sample batch had been whipped up, both local food producers realised they were on to a winner. Kathy Irwin, Director of Greeba Farm said: “It was phenomenal; visitors were flocking to our Manx Mushroom Experience tent demanding more ice cream. We ran out of supplies on Sunday afternoon, a staggering 7 gallons having been consumed over the weekend!” She added: “The final product was proof that using top quality ingredients in innovative ways demonstrates their versatility. It was a subtle combination of flavours that many people commented should not have worked, but just did.” The dish is now set to feature in Manx Mushroom Month (October) with several local restaurants considering how they could include Davidson’s Manx mushroom ice cream to their menus and the Davison’s Ice cream Parlours stocking up for October too.
