Year One pupils from Braddan School made some four-legged friends when they visited the Sea Terminal to see behind the scenes at the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. The children’s visit marked the culmination of their summer topic of ‘journeys’ and gave them the chance to see how people booked ferry travel and talk to Steam Packet Company staff who worked at the Sea Terminal. Year One teacher Emma Parkes said: ‘The children thoroughly enjoyed being taken into the booking office and seeing their names put in the system. The visit allowed the children to apply the knowledge they had acquired about travel and modes of transport in an informative practical manner, and the staff were happy to answer any questions. ‘One of the highlights of the trip was meeting the Police sniffer dogs and watching how they work – especially when, during an exercise, the dogs showed it was the adults who had been naughty!’ Renee Caley, Marketing and Online Manager, said: ‘We regularly have school visits to the Sea Terminal and Ferry Travel Shop and the children really seem to enjoy learning about how things work behind the scenes. ‘Of course, these visits have to fit in around sailing schedules, but we’re happy to welcome pupils as it’s a great way for them to learn, on a practical level, about travel to and from the Island. And the children always seem to have a soft spot for the Police dogs!’ ENDS
