Captain Dermot O’Toole’s 17 years of pounding the Island’s roads in the Parish Walk has raised more than ?13,000 for the Manx Foundation for the Physically Disabled. The Captain’s efforts have helped provide the charity’s day care centre with further comfort and enhanced facilities and this year his sponsors raised another ?1,000. MFPD Manager Jan Jukes said: ‘Each year we’re amazed at the incredible fundraising that goes on in the Island, and the dedication shown by Captain O’Toole is a great example of the support shown by the Manx public to, not just us, but charities across the Isle of Man. ‘The Foundation provides social care for adults from the age of 18 onwards who have physical disabilities. Our day care services are provided Monday to Friday and service users are transported to the Day Centre at Masham Court, where we provide a range of activities and entertainment as well as a delicious home-cooked meal.’ Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘For someone to complete the Parish Walk once is some achievement, but to do it 17 consecutive times really is quite remarkable. As always, Dermot’s colleagues at the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company were quick to support their Captain in raising funds for such a worthwhile cause.’ ENDS
