Netball Reports: League Week 2

by isleofman.com 5th October 2011
Reports by Sadhbh O'Shea Manx Glass Saints – 34 v Anglo Manx Electrical Service – 12 Despite their slow start, there was almost nothing stopping Manx Glass Saints from racking up a dominant victory. Saints opened scoring, after several attempts, but Anglo Manx were quick to rectify the deficit. A pretty even first quarter saw both teams earning equal opportunities, but Saints soon pulled out a significant lead. After struggling to keep pace, Anglo Manx took a few goals back, but it was too late. PoTM: Kym Hicklin (Saints); Sue Webster (Anglo Manx) Missfits B – 15 v Moore Stephens Hurricanes – 11 After a close loss in the opening weekend, Missfits came out on top in yet another tight encounter. A close match from the start, both teams got in to the circle regularly. With the match so tight, it was all about who converted their chances. There were several missed opportunities, but Missfits capitalised. Despite the loss, Moore Stephens should be happy with the score line after a resounding defeat in their first game. PoTM: Hannah Skillicorn (Missfits); Becky Pate (Hurricanes) Toomraiders – 6 v C&S Joinery A – 37 C&S moved up to third place (Premier League), after their huge victory over Toomraiders. A player down, Toomraiders battled but their few loose passes didn’t help them. C&S were eager to take advantage of the player imbalance and were quick to put in the goals each quarter. Toomraiders created some chances, but C&S worked well to block most of them out in the circle. PoTM: Ellie Quayle (Toomraiders); Andrea DeBruin (C&S A) Fencibles A – 29 v PWC Manx Gems Emeralds – 22 Fencibles looked dominant early on, but faltered towards the end in a close battle with Manx Gems Emeralds. Fencibles opened scoring, quickly building a small lead, in the first quarter. Emeralds had to fight hard to keep them in check, closing the gap slightly in the second; completely dominating the quarter. Fencibles regrouped at half-time and picked up their pace, on their way to victory. PoTM: Voirrey Acheson (Fencibles); Sarah Curphey (Emeralds) PWC Manx Gems Rubies – 29 v Missfits A – 57 Missfits A continued their great start to the season, after only being promoted to the Premier Division at the end of last season. Quick paced from the off, they notched one on the scoreboard almost immediately. Caught off guard slightly, by the fast starting Missfits, Rubies took a little longer to find rhythm. By the third quarter, both teams were regularly putting them in to the net; but it was too late for Rubies to bring the game back in to contention. PoTM: Christie Morgan (Rubies); Suzanne O’Reilly (Missfits) Switched on Sharks – 28 v PWC Manx Gems Sapphires - 18 Sapphires were first to make their mark, but it was the Sharks who stepped up to claim a second victory; in only their first season of netball. Their victory secures top place in the Second Division, with some of the teams yet to play their second match. The Sharks struggled early on as Sapphires really piled on the pressure, but a shift in position seemed to work its magic and they dominated the second half of the game.
