There are events galore at the Family Library from October 8th to 31st as it takes part in The Big Draw.
The month-long annual festival introduces the public to the delights of art and events take place at galleries, museums, libraries, schools and parks across the British Isles.
Mary Cousins, Librarian at the Department of Education and Children-run Family Library, said: ‘It’s the third year we’ve taken part in The Big Draw and we think our events are bigger and better than before, with some talented local artists taking part.’
Events include:
Krista Magee – Big Animation 2: Three sessions taking place from 10am to 2pm on Tuesday 25th to Thursday 27th October. ?10 per day.
Juan Moore’s Live Painting and Lecture: Juan will create a painting and talk about influences and techniques. 3pm on Thursday 27th October. ?1 (proceeds to Children in Need).
Zombies and monsters workshops with Juan Moore, Thomas Egan and Rachael Ansell: Young people will work with the professional illustrators/artists to create spooky creations. Friday 28th October, 11am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm; Saturday 29th October, 1pm to 3pm. ?5 per session.
Juan said of his lecture: ‘I think it’s great for the public to get to see the process behind creating an artwork. I'm fortunate in that I work quickly compared to most artists. If I can’t do it in a day, I normally don't bother.
‘Painting can be a very personal thing, which is why few artists are prepared to paint in public. For me, art is about the process, not necessarily the end result, so if I can share with people what it get out of what I do for a living, that makes it all worthwhile.
‘It is my hope that it will inspire others to pick up a paintbrush or a pencil and get cracking with some art of their own.’
Tickets are available at the library for all three events. Early booking is recommended as the events always prove popular.
In addition, the library will host Big Drawing Sessions on Saturdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm and taking part is free. On October 8th the subject will be family trees, on the 15th it will be still life, on the 22nd the session will be hosted by Rachael Ansell and Thomas Egan and on the 29th the theme is Hop-tu-naa.
