Job Club is Open for Business

by isleofman.com 5th October 2011
The Department of Economic Development’s Employment and Skills Group are encouraging job seekers to come along to their Job Club for free and friendly advice from their Advisors. Since it opened in 2009, as part of the service provided by the Jobcentre, the Job Club has proved very popular in helping individuals who are looking for work. In a relaxed, pleasant and designated environment, the facility offers practical assistance, ranging from how to search for a job using the Internet through to making applications and interview techniques. Visitors to the Club also have access to the Jobcentre’s reference library. The Job Club is staffed by skilled Employment Advisors, who are on hand to provide advice to individuals and computer access on a drop-in basis, enabling the Department to provide a comprehensive service to Jobcentre visitors. Allan Bell, Minister for the Department of Economic Development, said: ‘The Department of Economic Development plays a vital role in supporting those in our community who are looking for work and is also a boost to our economy in that it provides local businesses with access to job seekers too. The Club is a great way to help people make the most of local knowledge and resources and provides a place for people to meet and make contacts, exchange skills and get the support they need to get back into work.’ A job searcher who recently used the facility praised the Job Club. He said: ‘I have recently gained employment and during my short time job seeking I found the resources offered at the Club most helpful and convenient. The staff were always welcoming and friendly to myself and all other users.’ Dudley Butt MLC, Political Member for the Employment and Skills Group, said: ‘The Job Club offers help and advice on how to get back into employment and also provides social contact with people in the same situation. I would encourage anyone who is looking for work, whether it’s a change in career or the first step on the ladder, to come and see what help and advice is available.’ The Job Club runs from Monday to Thursday 9.15am until 4.45pm and each Friday from 9.15am to 4.15pm at the Jobcentre, Nivison House, Prospect Hill, Douglas. Computers at the Job Club can be pre-booked to ensure clients make the most of their time. This can be done by calling the Jobcentre on (01624) 687014 and arranging a convenient day and time. ENDS
