Douglas in Bloom 2011 Produces Outstanding Displays

Despite a wet and windy summer, gardeners across the Borough of Douglas rose to the Douglas in Bloom 2011 challenge to produce outstanding displays, their efforts recognised at a prize presentation hosted by Douglas Mayor Ritchie McNicholl at Douglas town hall. Nursery foreman Graham Newsome, a member of the judging panel, commented that with all eyes on Douglas during the Commonwealth Youth Games the Council’s Parks section had had an exceptionally busy summer, while the Mayor, before presenting the prizes, congratulated the entrants for their high standards of horticultural expertise in all categories. Overall winners were Mr and Mrs John Masser of 10 Crovens Close who also won the Secret Garden category. Other individual category winners were: The Edelweiss Hotel: Hotel/Guesthouse without Garden The Trevelyan Hotel: Hotel/Guesthouse with Garden Mr Phil Walton of Farmhill Park: Private Houses with Garden Strand Shopping Centre: Business Premises Tower House: Pub/Restaurant/Cafe Ballakermeen High School: Public/Community Garden Mrs Sylvia Potts of Willaston Crescent: Best Douglas Council Property Garden Ballaquayle School: Conservation, Wildlife and Biodiversity Isle of Man College: Best Douglas Council Allotment Ends
