Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the recent Shoprite Cycle for Life sponsored charity ride was another great success.
Hundreds of cyclists of all ages took part in the event, which consisted of a relay around the world famous TT mountain circuit for the older riders and a family fun run along Douglas promenade which attracted around 300 children.
The money raised, at least ?10,000, was for this year's nominated charities: the Diana Princess of Wales Care at Home Trust and the Isle of Man Badminton Association.
A total of 24 teams tackled the seven stage relay, with the winning Team Royal London 360 "A" squad of Josh Knights, Jake Kelly, Joseph Haddock, Leon Mazzone, Matthew Davies, Jamie Dudley and Jamie Everitt covering the 37.75 miles in 1 hour and 53 mins to beat the Police team by 03mins 02secs. The Fire Service completed the top three a further 01min 08secs behind.
The Royal London 360 U/14's "B" squad (Matthew Draper, Michael Moss, Conor Davies, Callum Clague, Owen Dudley, Nathan Hinks, Matthew Bostock) also did well to finish eighth in 02.10.46, while the all-girl "C" team (Eleanor Stokoe, Eleanor Davies, Ali Clague, Emma Nicholson, Phoebe Ferguson, Breeshey Cain, Elizabeth Holden) got round in 02.19.05 to claim the women's prize in a very good 12th spot.
Organiser Mike O'Hare was full of admiration for the young winners, the latest batch of future stars who have come up through the ranks of Dot Tilbury's Tuesday night league at the National Sports Centre.
"They're the new Mark Cavendishes and they rode like champions", he said.
