Nick Corlett Uses Conister Bank Sponsorship To Achieve New Heights

by isleofman.com 11th October 2011
Local bank Conister have continued their sponsorship of a young Manx sportsman to help support his success, providing funds to help his travel to and from competitions; as well as a specialised ‘Epic’ mountain bike worth ?4,500. QE2 student Nick Corlett, 15, was triumphant in the End 2 End race on Sunday 18th September – taking home the trophy for 1st place in the Junior Category at the End 2 End presentation. This built on last years’ performance, when he came second. Although as a Junior he could only compete up to St. Johns, Nick actually went on to complete the entire course in just over three and a half hours. Nick has also been very active in other competitions all over the UK, recently competing in the British Junior National Championships in Plymouth. Over the season Nick has competed in 9 races in the UK and has placed in the top 10 for all of them, which means that he is now ranked 9th in the UK at a junior level. Nick took 2nd place at the 2011 British Cycling Northern Championships and 8th place in the British National Championships earlier in the year. Closer to home, Nick won the Summer Marathon mountain bike race at Archallagan Plantation; when he was up against 33 adult riders – several of which were in the 2011 Island Games Team. Nick is the under-16 Manx Road Race Champion, and has competed in 7 other Manx races so far this year; placing top 10 in all of them. Nick has applied for entry into the Olympic Development Squad, and hopes to follow in the footsteps of Manxman Mark Cavendish. Fred Kelly, the new Managing Director of Conister Bank, is delighted that the bank can be supporting such a bright young individual: “Conister is proud to be the only independent Manx bank, and we take our responsibility to give something back to the community very seriously. Nick is a very gifted young man, and a shining example of some of the fantastic young people we have here on the Isle of Man. He should be very proud of everything that he has achieved, and everyone at Conister is thrilled that our sponsorship helps him to progress even further.” Conister Bank is an independent bank founded in 1935, domiciled on the Isle of Man and is a part of Manx Financial Group PLC.
