Boost for Extension Plans To Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club

by isleofman.com 12th October 2011
A new extension for the Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club in Douglas has moved a step closer, following a tombola supported by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. The Steam Packet Company donated a voucher for a car plus two passengers to the prize draw, with the voucher – drawn at this year’s Royal Manx Agricultural Show – won by Michael Harvey, of Abbeylands, who used the tickets to arrange a trip to the UK. The Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club, which is based close to the National Sports Centre, was established more than 25 years ago and has helped develop the careers of many young Island gymnasts. The cost of the extension will be ?100,000. Clare Duchars, volunteer coach and fundraiser at the EVGC, said: ‘We rely on fundraising events to finance projects such as the new extension, and we’re always hugely grateful to organisations such as the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company who donate prizes to these events. Without their cooperation and prizes, we wouldn’t raise anywhere near as much money as we do each year.’ Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘The Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club has been part of the local community for a quarter of a century and the team there does a fantastic job for the youngsters who attend. Gymnastics is a wonderful sport for young people to get involved with and we’re happy to help the Club along the way towards its fundraising target.’ ENDS
