Toomraiders 38 PWC Manx Gems Rubies 18 by Judi Clark-Wilson
Toomraiders have had a difficult start to the season. Their first match being against Ballasalla A, last year’s Premiership winners followed the next week by C&S A, last years runners up. Both these matches they played without their full squad and were heavily beaten.
This however has not daunted Toomraiders and they came out today determined to put those two matches behind them and try and gel more as a team.
Stacey Meakin GS and Alex McPherson GA played intelligently together making this debut partnership an interesting combination. Rubies' Ellie Howell-Evans GK and Jess Hawkins GD made some dynamic interceptions but were unable to stop the Toomraiders shots on goal being successful.
Becs Moore and Carly Craine linked well with the Quayle girls, bringing the ball securely up court. Kate Mulhern made many fine touches as GK breaking down the shooting partnership of Christie Morgan and Trudi Halsall for Rubies. The Morgan/Halsall duo looks a promising one that should develop as the season progresses.
Voirrey Collister WD for Rubies was a worthy recipient of POTM along with Alex McPherson GA for Toomraiders.
Magic Carpets – 36 v C&S Joinery C - 27 by Sadhbh O'Shea
Magic Carpets made a last quarter surge to victory and move in to third place in Division One. C&S, who have had a tough start to the season after being promoted to the league last year, managed to keep the points gap close throughout the game. Magic Carpets didn’t make the start to the final quarter they would have liked, allowing C&S a little close for comfort, but put in a solid last couple of minutes to win the game.
PoTM: Kerry Kermode (Magic Carpets); Ashleigh Young (C&S)
PokerStars – 23 v Manx Glass Saints – 25 by Sadhbh O'Shea
Manx Glass Saints edged out victory against PokerStars, to remain unbeaten so far this season. C&S’s easy start to the season was challenged as PokerStars really brought it to them on the third weekend. PokerStars dominated parts of the game and could have won, but for a few missed shots on goal. Saints had to work hard to hold on for victory, despite fading in the last minutes of the game.
PoTM: Nat Christian (PokerStars); Sarah Breen (Saints)
SMP Ballasalla A – 43 v C&S Joinery B – 11 by Sadhbh O'Shea
Premier Division leaders, Ballasalla put on a fine performance to demolish C&S Joinery B. C&S made a good start and quickly opened up the scoring, but Balla took the game to them. Balla showed the form that kept them unbeaten in the league, with the high tempo and almost eliminating C&S from the game. C&S came back towards the end, but far too late to have an impact.
PoTM: Kelly Sherratt (SMP); Megan Staples (C&S B)
Route 1 Connections – 28 v Missfits A – 33 by Sadhbh O'Shea
Route 1 looked keen to take their first victory this season, coming out of the blocks very quickly. Their quick start immediately put Missfits on the back foot and began to build a small lead. Missfits finally caught up with Route 1’s pace towards the end of the first quarter, with some very consistent shooting. It took most of the game, before Missfits could finally break free of Route 1 and go on to take victory.
PoTM: Sarah Madrell (Route 1); Emma Williams (Missfits A)
C&S Joinery A – 54 v Thompson A – 22 by Sadhbh O'Shea
Thompson made a good start by holding their own against C&S in the first half of the game. C&S stepped up another gear and Thompson couldn’t keep up any longer; building up an unassailable lead. Thompson had a few good patches, but C&S neutralised most of their opposition’s goals. After a high tempo game, the final quarter slowed down and gave Thompson the chance to reduce the gap.
PoTM: Sarah Corkish (C&S); Lesley Patterson (Thompson)
Thompson B – 22 v C&S Joinery D – 17 by Sadhbh O'Shea
This could have been anyone’s game, with only one point in it at some stages, but it was Thompson who just held on for the win. It seemed like both teams could only hold the momentum for one quarter, before the opposition would take the ascendancy after the break. C&S took the early initiative, keeping Thompson in their own third for much of the early match. Thompson finally broke free and managed to edge out the victory.
PoTM: Kim Lamb (Thompson); Aalish Bridson (C&S Joinery)
