Skanco Celebrates 25 Years in Business

by isleofman.com 14th October 2011
Local corporate IT services provider Skanco Business Systems Limited celebrated its twenty fifth anniversary at a private ceremony on the afternoon of Friday 7th October. To mark the occasion, the staff filled a time capsule with iconic items from the IT industry over the last twenty five years. The event began with an address by Managing Director David Butterworth, reviewing the last 25 years and looking at IT trends to expect in the near future. The capsule was then buried on the grounds of the company’s business continuity facility Restart, a 10,000 sq ft dedicated facility in Braddan. The staff all then went on to a local pub for a private party provided by the company. David Butterworth commented on the anniversary: “It was great to get all the staff together and do something to mark this impressive milestone in our history as a company. It reminded me of what a great mix of people we have, from the management team, some who have been here for over 20 years, to fresh young apprentices still working towards their first qualifications. Everyone knows each other and gets on really well, despite our having grown over the years to a very substantial size.” David continued: “The time capsule was a bit of a fun way to mark the occasion but it also makes a serious point. As a company, we fully intend to be around in another twenty five years to dig it back up and wonder at the history inside it. Maybe by then, one of today’s apprentices will be in my shoes.” Skanco has developed significantly over its history, moving from a business that was heavily procurement oriented to more of a service provision role. It now provides a comprehensive selection of corporate IT services from its two custom built locations – its head offices and the Restart centre. It now employs over forty people and represents a major success story as a Manx owned business that has flourished in the face of competition from UK based brands. The time capsule buried on Friday was marked with a plaque stating that it is not to be dug up until 2036. - Ends -
