Manx Telecom has announced that it is to sponsor the Parish Walk for the next three years. Starting with the 2012 edition - which takes place on Saturday June 23 - the event will be known as the Manx Telecom Parish Walk.
David Smith, Manx Telecom Marketing Director, said:
“The Parish Walk is a wonderful example of the Isle of Man’s passion for sport and community spirit. It’s an incredible sporting contest, a great community event, and it generates thousands of pounds every year for Island charities with so many of the walkers raising funds. All of these aspects of the Parish Walk mean that it has become an integral part of Island life, and becoming title sponsor of the event is a natural progression for Manx Telecom as we have provided timing and results services since 2007. As the Island’s leading telecommunications company we are very proud to sponsor such an important event in the Island’s sporting and community calendar.”
Manx Telecom’s timing services to the Parish Walk allow the friends and relatives of competitors to track their progress around the 85-mile course and receive text updates as they pass checkpoints. The company will continue to provide these services and is working with Parish Walk organisers to look at ways of making further improvements to the event. Ray Cox, Race Director of the Manx Telecom Parish Walk, said he and his organising team were delighted with the new title sponsor. He said:
“We have made good friends with the people at Manx Telecom since the company began its involvement with the event four years ago. They bring an excellent level of technological expertise to the organisation, and with their help over the next three years we aim to enhance the ‘Parish experience’ for both competitors and spectators.”
