Athlete’ Returns To Rose Garden

by isleofman.com 17th October 2011
The bronze figure of an athlete has been returned to its ‘home’ in the Clifton Terrace rose garden, Douglas, after it was vandalised in October 2010. The vandalism, which extended to the garden’s decorative lighting fixtures, required Douglas Borough Council to employ the services of a specialist company to repair the statue at a cost of ?2000. Leisure services committee chairman Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘That such extensive damage should have been caused was deplorable. Members were determined not to bow to such a mindless act of vandalism and therefore resolved to authorise the repair work to the figure and the lighting, the latter costing a further ?2000, in order to restore the garden to serving as a tranquil green space in the heart of Douglas.’ ENDS
