Suspect Packages

by isleofman.com 20th October 2011
On Friday 14th October 2011 police attended Isle of Man Post in response to their staff intercepting two suspect packages, both addressed to local financial institutions. The packages have been opened and examined by police. They are very similar to those received by some local financial institutions in 2009; a rambling letter mentioning local financial institutions. Each recent package contained a nylon ‘pocket handkerchief’ with a taped cellophane type wrap secreted inside it, containing a small cotton ‘swab’ impregnated with a liquid. Further tests will be conducted on the swab. It should be assumed the liquid isn’t likely to be friendly, so due diligence should be exercised by staff handling incoming mail etc. Should any suspect packages be identified, they should not be opened and police advised as a matter of urgency. In addition to the above, staff who inadvertently handle the contents of any suspicious packages should consider seeking medical attention as soon as possible. Further advice and guidance will be issued in due course, if appropriate. If circumstances warrant an urgent or immediate police presence, dial 999, or 697327 in non-emergency situations. ENDS
