by isleofman.com 26th October 2011
The Medis Cross Country League is now in full swing and attracted a total of 167 runners for the first event under the name of the new sponsor. Medis - the pharmaceutical company based in Circular Road, Douglas - is a keen supporter of Island sports and charities and is proud to be backing the Isle of Man’s Cross Country League. Stuart Colligon, Medis Managing Director, watched round one of the league at Ballanette which was organised by Manx Harriers. He commented: “It was great to see so many runners taking part with all ages represented from the under 9s to veterans. By sponsoring the League we are proud to be playing a small part in ensuring the long tradition of Cross Country running on the Island continues to flourish and to attract competitors old and new. Of course, the Medis Cross Country League relies on the efforts of organisers from local athletics clubs and we are very grateful for all of the hard work club members put in to organise each round.” Round two of the Medis Cross Country League is on November 13 at Crossags and organised by Northern AC; round three on December 4 is organised by Western AC at Glen Lough; round four is on January 22 at Ballanette and the event - promoted by Manx Harriers - incorporates the Isle of Man Cross Country Championship. The fifth and final round of the Medis Cross Country League is on February 12 at Glen Lough and organised by Western AC. David Pryke, Chairman of the Isle of Man Athletics Association, said: “The Cross Country League is more popular than ever, across all age groups, and the IOMAA is delighted to have this sponsorship from Medis to support these events.” The Cross Country League sponsorship is the latest event to be backed by Medis The company also sponsor an Island-wide primary schools’ hockey tournament which will enter its third year in 2012.
