The latest Junior Squash Grading competition was held at the NSC on 23 October.
Rebecca Keeley was in commanding form in Group 6 winning all 5 of her matches and only conceding 15 points. Closest to Rebecca was newcomer Charles Kinrade who won 4 matches to come second ahead of Rania Gomaa.
Group 5 was a very closely contested Group with 3 players - Mark Arrowsmith, Harab Khan & Oliver Wait - winning 4 matches out of 5. Harab beat Mark but lost to Oliver who, in turn, lost to Mark. Harab eventually came first by virtue of scoring the most points in the match he lost. Mark was second and Oliver third. A special mention goes to Jack Rowlands, who competed well after moving up a Grade so that the numbers between Groups 5 & 6 were evened out.
Group 4 had 8 players and was again very keenly contested, with only 13 points covering first to fifth. Matthew Naylor came out on top winning 6 of his 7 matches, Liam Townsend being the only player to beat Matthew. Peter and Calum Baker both won 5 matches. Calum narrowly beat his older brother but lost to Lewis Bridson who lost to Peter. Peter eventually came second by 2 points from Calum with Lewis 2 points further back and Liam just 4 points behind Lewis.
The top 3 groups all played matches to the best of 5 games. There were some marathon's here with Ben Peach beating Harry Douthwaite 3-2 in Group 3. Scott Jones then took advantage by beat both Ben & Harry 3-0.
In Group 2 the marathon was the last match between brothers Edward and Sidney Batty. Sidney came back from 2-0 down but on the day Edward was not to be denied and won 3-2.
Group 1 was similar to Group 3. Oscar Hill and Peter Naylor, competing for the third time this season, played the match of the tournament. Peter went 2-1 up and had match points in the fourth before Oscar eventually took it 17-15. Oscar also won a close 5th game to win 3-2. Home for half-term, Juan Churcher was looking on amused at his two opponents exhausting themselves. After a break Juan beat Peter 3-1 and Oscar 3-0.
Trophies were presented by Squash Junior Development Officer, Carl Albrigt before the reporter's camera expired.
