The Children’s Centre has appointed Angela Guest as the charity’s Human Resources Consultant. Her new role involves overseeing recruitment, development and retention of staff to work for the Island’s leading charity for children and families. Angela also has responsibility for assessing and updating policies in regard to all aspects of employment at The Children’s Centre.
Angela worked in the finance sector immediately prior to joining The Children’s Centre - but before that she spent many years working with children and young people. Angela spent her childhood in Sheffield, and after studying A-levels went to Leicester University where she gained a BA Honours degree in combined arts which included studies in French, English, Sociology and Psychology. After completing her training to be a teacher, Angela taught languages in schools in Wales and Yorkshire and then moved on to work with young people who were not in mainstream education, whilst also training adults to work with disaffected young people. During this time she gained a youth and community work qualification. She went on to work within local Government on social policy initiatives and community-based projects aimed at tackling poverty, gaining a further qualification in management. In 2000, Angela moved to the Isle of Man and worked for the Department of Education’s Youth and Community Service. She said:
“My role at The Children’s Centre is primarily HR – supporting managers to make good decisions about people, in order to best meet the needs of the organisation. With my background in teaching and working with young people, my role at The Children’s Centre means that I’m in an environment which is very familiar to me.”
John Knight, Chief Executive of The Children’s Centre, congratulated Angela on her new role and added:
“It’s always refreshing when someone brings in new ideas. Angela has given us a new way of looking at our structure and HR challenges, and I’m confident that we will continue to see many benefits resulting from the wealth of experience she has of working with children and in HR roles.”
Angela takes over the role of Human Resources Consultant from Juana Warburton, who is now Development Manager at The Children’s Centre.
