HMS Ramsey’s New CO Visits Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Station

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 1st November, Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Station was visited by Lieutenant Commander Paul Ottewell, Royal Navy, the new commanding officer of HMS Ramsey. Whilst at the lifeboat station Lt Cdr Ottewell was shown around the lifeboat and boathouse by station mechanic Ali Clague, chatted with volunteer lifeboat crew members and also met with members of the Manx Sailing and Cruising Club. Kev Christian, Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Station Operations Manager, said he was delighted that the Lieutenant Commander was able to spend some time at the Station and took the opportunity to thank the officers and crew of HMS Ramsey for their continued support of Ramsey’s lifeboat and the RNLI charity. Lt Cdr Ottewell spent a busy day on the Island visiting the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, Ramsey Grammar School, the Ramsey branch of the Royal Naval Association, Ramsey Town Hall and the Ramsey branch of the RNLI, who together the Manx Sailing and Cruising Club all have proud affiliations with HMS Ramsey. At a special ceremony in Ramsey on 24th April 2010 Ramsey Town Commissioners granted HMS Ramsey Freedom of Entry to the town. HMS Ramsey, a Sandown class Royal Navy mine hunter, is currently on a 4 year deployment in the Gulf and Lt Cdr Ottewell will join her at the end of the month. ENDS
