by isleofman.com 4th November 2011
Reports by Sadhbh O'Shea Fencibles B – 26 v Route 1 Sparks – 15 Pride was at stake here, with both teams going in to the match unbeaten, but it was Fencibles who came out on top. An even start, both teams got plenty of shots in, but neither team could hit the target. Finally Fencibles broke the deadlock and didn’t look back. Route 1 stay top of the table, despite the loss, while Fencibles creep a little higher with one game in hand. PoTM: Susie Cox (Fencibles); Paige Skillicorn (Route 1 Sparks) PWC Manx Gems Sapphires – 18 v Missfits B – 21 A close fought battle, from the start, saw Missfits edge out Sapphires and end their two-match losing streak. Missfits got off to the better start and opened up scoring; while Sapphires took several attempts before marking the scoreboard. Sapphires soaked up most of the pressure and played well in defence, but couldn’t score those vital couple of goals to bring the game in their direction. PoTM: Kelly Ashe (Sapphires); Mel Trees (Missfits B) Toomraiders – 35 v C&S Joinery B – 20 Toomraiders enjoyed a comfortable victory, despite a late charge from C&S. Toomraiders’ slow start was capitalised upon by C&S. Despite the early pressure, Toomraiders composed themselves, stealing their opposition’s momentum. As they began to fall behind, C&S struggled to maintain shooting consistency, but goalkeeper Tessa Wagstaff made sure Toomraiders didn’t get too far ahead. PoTM: Carly Singer (Toomraiders); Ellan Charmer (C&S B) Thompson A – 33 v Missfits – 38 Missfits held off a fight back, in the final quarter, to edge out Thompson and stay second in the table. Missfits have had a great start since returning to the Premier Division, which reflected in in the game. Thompson seemed to struggle with the early pace and chances were few. The quick start took its toll and Missfits slowed in the latter stages, allowing Thompson to mount a comeback. PoTM: Lesley Patterson (Thompson); Vivia Stawna (Missfits A) Team DQ Hurricanes – 34 v C&S Joinery C – 18 Team DQ kept up their unbeaten run, as they comfortably beat C&S Joinery, to remain top of the First Division. DQ gave the C&S defence a tough workout from the start, but they managed to hold their own for much of the game. With much of the game going the Hurricanes’ way, C&S had to fight hard to pull back some of the deficit in the mid-part of the game. The effort began to show and DQ were able to maintain their, already significant, lead until the end. PoTM: Vicki Prentice (Team DQ); Kinrey Glassey (C&S C) Route 1 Connections – 45 v C&S Joinery A – 35 C&S Joinery A finally saw an end to their four match winning streak, as they struggled to contain Route 1. The game was fast paced from the start and C&S was the one who got the scoring going. It took a little longer for Route 1 to get going, which allowed C&S build up a small lead. It wasn’t a big enough one, as Route 1 really piled on the pressure in the second half to take the lead. PoTM: Katrina Ott (Route 1); Claire Belcher-Smith (C&S A) Results: Sunday 23rd October Premier; Route 1 Connections 45, C&S Joinery A 35; Toomraiders 35, C&S Joinery B 20; Thompson A 33, Missfits A 38. Division 1: Absolute Scaffolding (Ramsey) 11, Pokerstars 27; Team DQ Hurricanes 34, C&S Joinery C 18; Manx Glass Saints 26, PWC Manx Gems Emeralds 29. Division 2: Fencibles B 26, Route 1 Sparks 15; PWC Manx Gems Sapphires 18, Missfits B 21; Thompson B 15, Switched on Sharks 12. ENDS
