A Second phase of public appointments gets under way today in order to recruit more people who are interested in serving the local community. The Council of Ministers is currently seeking to appoint lay members to the following organisations: • Appointments Commission • Isle of Man Government Preservation of War Memorials Committee • Health Services Independent Review Body • Manx Heritage Foundation Applications for the five-year appointments close at 5pm on Monday, November 28, and it is hoped that individuals willing to play a part in public life will respond positively. People from all backgrounds and walks of life are urged to apply in order to provide ideas and advice from different perspectives. The initial phase of public appointments, which closed at the end of October, attracted a strong level of interest from people keen to take a role in the operation and delivery of a number of essential services. Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK said: ‘We are fortunate to have a huge wealth of talent in the Isle of Man and I would encourage more people to come forward and get involved. I see these public appointments as an excellent opportunity for Government to work with community spirited individuals and utilise their skills, energy and contacts for the benefit of the Isle of Man and its people.’ While not involved in the day-to-day running of an organisation, public appointees are required to give an ongoing commitment in terms of their time, interest and attention. Demands vary according to the post, from attending a few board meetings each year to more substantial duties.
