Act of Remembrance

A Two Minutes’ Silence in remembrance of all those who have died in the Service of their Country will be observed in the Isle of Man at 11.00am on:- (i) Friday 11th November 2011 (ii) Sunday 13th November 2011 On both days Local Authorities are requested to make arrangements in their respective districts for giving warnings of the precise moment at which the Two Minutes’ Silence will begin and end. The full co-operation of the public in the observance of the Two Minutes’ Silence is requested. The suspension of all vehicular traffic between 11.00am and 11.02am on the designated days is also requested and it is especially hoped that drivers of motor vehicles will stop the engines of vehicles during the periods of silence. The Isle of Man National Service of Remembrance will be held at the Royal Chapel of St Johns at 3.00pm on Sunday 13th November 2011. His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister will be present. Members of the public wishing to attend are asked to be seated in the Church by 2.45pm And here’s a notice that has been circulated to all Government staff: Government staff who will be working on Friday 11th November 2011 and Sunday 13th November 2011 are advised that the two minutes silence should be observed at 11.00 am in remembrance of those who died in the service of their country, subject to and in accordance with the following instructions:- 1. Essential and emergency services must be maintained and must continue to function. 2. Public counters should display notices advising the public that the silence will be observed and members of the public politely reminded of the silence if necessary. 3. Meetings should be suspended for the duration of the silence. 4. Telephones should be answered and callers advised that they will be called back after the silence (except where the call, in the judgement of the officer concerned, warrants immediate attention). 5. Any member of staff driving a vehicle (including public transport) should stop and park the vehicle at the side of the road during the silence unless to do so would create a hazard or an obstruction. 6. Contractors working for Government should be invited to observe the silence on the same basis. ENDS
