Weather and tidal conditions were perfect for Sunday afternoon’s beach racing event hosted by the Manx Grass and Sand Racing Club on the beach opposite Ramsey Lifeboat Station. Spectators were treated to some thrilling racing, whilst the volunteer lifeboat crew worked hard supplying hungry and thirsty bikers and supporters with hundreds of burgers and gallons of hot soup, tea and coffee.
Junior, adult and quad classes raced over a testing course with a challenging series of large and small sand jumps specially created for the racing with mechanical diggers. Two of the competitors taking part in the adult class are members of the Ramsey lifeboat crew.
In total the event raised almost ?1500 for Ramsey RNLI Branch. Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Station Operations Manager, Kev Christian said “A huge thank you to the Manx Grass and Sand Racing Club and indeed everyone concerned. This is a magnificent sum that we will be putting towards equipping our volunteer lifeboat crew with the new RNLI design lifejackets.
“These new types of lifejacket have been custom designed through a joint collaboration between the RNLI charity and the manufacturer to meet the charity’s current search and rescue requirements.
“Every lifeboat station around the coast of the British Isles has been tasked to raise a specific amount of money, depending on the number of lifejackets required.”
