by isleofman.com 14th November 2011
This weeks Portsmouth round was part of the scratch league ten personal best being achieved two of which were equal bests and an amazing Robin Hood this coming from new boy Ethan Moore along with a personal best a good day for Moore other PB’s came from Adrian Breed, Robert Lott, Rhys Moore, Karen Lott, Colin Moore, Kirsten George, Adam Wright, Dave Berry and Aalin George. Great turn out and two fantastic battles in the gents recurve this week the first battle was for top honours between Tony Hartley and Dave Berry this was an end to end lead change and by the mid stage point both were level on points and gold’s scored Berry dropped four points after the break which seen Hartley get the lead he needed to put Berry under pressure for the last dozen arrows which worked in Harleys favour Berry dropped another five points and pick up second spot, the battle for the last spot on the podium was even closer between Jon Rutland and Billy Lightfoot this was also an end to end battle which saw Rutland edge it with a three point advantage in the last six arrows. Ladies Recurve saw Barbara Harris put in a dominant display of archery to pick up the top spot from an off form Anne Rutland who was being chased for the runners up spot by the ever improving Karen Lott who puts in a great performance to only miss out on the second spot by seven points, another great battle exhumed in the gents compound between Peter Mumford and Colin Moore who can not do anything wrong at the moment with his switch to compound and ever improving only for Mumford to take a six point lead at the mid stage after the break Moore change gear and pushed for home but could only pull back four points to finish a tantalizing two points behind Mumford. Ladies compound saw Archery GB number 1 ranked junior top the standings from her ever improving sister Kirsten who put in another personal best with Sarah Rigby who picked up the last spot on the podium, in the junior recurve Adam Wright put in a storming display to top the podium from Bradley Layton with Charlotte Harris picking up the last podium spot. Portsmouth Results Gents Recurve Tony Hartley 60 25 550 Dave Berry 60 22 541 =PB Jon Rutland 60 19 527 Billy Lightfoot 59 18 524 Adrian Breed 60 3 456 PB Robert Lott 60 6 423 PB Ethan Moore 57 5 398 PB Rhys Moore 59 3 386 PB Ladies Recurve Barbara Harris 60 15 525 Anne Rutland 59 12 495 Karen Lott 60 11 488 PB Gents Compound Peter Mumford 60 17 556 Colin Moore 60 20 554 PB Ladies Compound Aalin George 60 41 581 =PB Kirsten George 60 29 569 PB Sarah Rigby 60 22 562 Joy Gough 60 22 561 Junior Recurve Adam Wright 60 3 491 PB Bradley Layton 60 5 471 Charlotte Harris 58 4 398 There is no shooting at Onchan next week due to a large contingency of over a dozen archers who are travelling to the NCAS 34th indoor championships held in Penrith leisure centre in Cumbria so good luck to everyone competing and bring back some silverware with that the next Sunday shoot at Onchan will be Sunday 27th and will be a Fita 18 for the morning shoot and the Chairman’s Mid Life Crisis Cup in the afternoon slot this is a shoot with a difference so the more competitors the better there is silverware at stake for this one on a handicap rating so this could go to anyone who shoots about their handicap. Monday night shooting is back 7:30 for a 8pm start and all club members are reminded that The Isle of Man Archery Club will be holding their 2011 Outdoor Season Prize Presentation on the evening of Thursday 24th November at the Ronaldsway Social Club 7.30 pm for a prompt start at 8.00 pm any donations of prizes would be most welcome.
