Department of Social Care Seeks Tynwald Approval for a Minor Capital Works Programme

by isleofman.com 14th November 2011
The Minister for Social Care will be seeking Tynwald approval this week for three projects in the Minor Capital Works Programme, two in support of affordable housing and one for Social Services, to the total value of ?220,000. Minister for Social Care Hon Chris Robertshaw MHK said: “These minor capital works had previously been planned to occur as part of longer term programmes to the Department’s properties. Bringing them forward to this time will deliver real benefits both in terms of the quality and range of housing for those in need and also provide continuing work for the Island’s construction industry.” The first project is to enable the resurfacing of the car park at Ballabrooie in Sulby to remove pot holes and trip hazards and ease the parking congestion on the estate. The second project is to renew soffits, fascia and guttering to 28 houses at Glen Mooar in Laxey as part of the ongoing planned maintenance of the Department’s estates. The third project is to refurbish and renovate properties on Tynwald Terrace in Douglas in order to provide supported living accommodation for some adults recovering from mental illness, helping them to develop the skills needed to live more independent and fulfilled lives and so reducing the long-term cost to the taxpayer.
