Visit of Sierra Leone Aid Workers To Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 15th November 2011
Two African aid workers recently visited the Island to speak about their work in Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world, with a life expectancy of just 56 years. Eustace Mensah, a Ghanaian, is the Livelihoods Officer for Christian Aid in Sierra Leone. Joe Ndanema is the Development Secretary of Methodist Church Sierra Leone, and as such coordinates all the church’s aid work in the country, including the 2009-12 farming and fishing project supported by the IoM’s Overseas Aid Committee through Christian Aid. Joe and Eustace are committed professionals and gave a fascinating presentation of their work at a public meeting at Kirk Braddan church hall, where a shared supper was enjoyed by all. The event was organised by the World Development Committee of Churches Alive in Man. Phil Craine, who represents Christian Aid on the Island, said, ‘Eustace and Joe were so helpful when our Manx group visited Sierra Leone in February, and it’s wonderful that they’re now able to come to the Island during their stay in Britain. Clearly the money sent by the Island has changed many lives for the better’. Ends
