Shine a Light: Lloyds TSB Is Calling On The People To Carry The London 2012 Paralympic Flame

by isleofman.com 15th November 2011
Lloyds TSB, Presenting Partner of the London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay, today urges Islanders to shine a light on people who have made a difference in their community and inspired and supported disabled people, by nominating them to carry the Paralympic Flame. Nominations can be made online via www.lloydstsb.com/paralympicflame until 22 November 2011. Successful Torchbearers will work in teams of five to carry the Flame on its journey to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. The London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay will see four separate flames lit in London, Greater Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff from 24 August 2012, before a special ceremony at Stoke Mandeville brings them together to create the Paralympic Flame. The Flame is then carried by non-stop 24-hour Relay from Stoke Mandeville to the Olympic Stadium to open the London 2012 Paralympic Games on 29 August 2012. Nominations are being sought from all corners of the British Isles, with the public being called upon to recognise the people who have inspired and supported people with disability and made a difference in their community. Anyone can be a Paralympic Torchbearer whether they are disabled or not. Whether it is a disabled person who has achieved personal success, the teacher who removes barriers to include pupils with a disability in sport, the family member who cares for someone with a disability or the friend who’s raised thousands of pounds for charities that support and empower disabled people, Lloyds TSB is inviting everyone to nominate someone to carry the Paralympic Flame with successful Torchbearers working in teams of five to carry the Flame on its journey to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Lord Seb Coe, a passionate Chelsea fan and Chairman of London 2012 has nominated five members of Chelsea’s disability football team including the manager Rob Searle to carry the Paralympic Flame. Lord Coe said “Rob consistently inspires people to do things they never thought possible and impresses parents with how he inspires their disabled children to play football for the first time. Many children arrive at his training sessions lacking in confidence but Rob changes this and ensures self-belief is instilled into every individual with his ‘can do’ attitude. Rob encourages working together and always teaches the responsibilities of working as a team. Disabled players are given significant roles at the club, like leading training sessions and some have been guided through the FA coaching qualifications. All these duties have created an inspirational bond within Rob’s sides. Each player is taught the values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality. By pushing the boundaries of what’s achievable, Rob has motivated others to succeed. “The Paralympic Torch Relay provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the people who make a real difference within the disability community and involve them in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Don’t miss this chance to make your nomination now.” ENDS
