Prospect Deputy General Secretary, Mike Clancy and Prospect President Nigel Titchen are due to fly to the island on Thursday 17 November 2011 to attend a meeting of Prospect members.
The meeting, held at the Empress Hotel from 5.30pm, is the Annual General Meeting of the GOA branch of the union. It will also be attended by members from elsewhere in the public and private sector. The meeting is expected to attract around 100 Prospect members from across the island.
Both Prospect officials are here to listen to members’ ongoing concerns regarding pay, pensions and redundancies and to provide reassurance that Prospect remains committed to supporting members through current difficulties.
The visit is part of an ongoing commitment by Prospect in the UK to ensure that the Isle of Man is prioritised centrally within the union, to ensure service delivery to members.
Speaking of his latest visit Mike Clancy stated:
“It is important that the needs of our members on the island are not forgotten or marginalised at this time. The issues members are facing here, irrespective of whether they are employed in the public or private sector, are very close to those members in the UK are dealing with.
The Isle of Man is different though and we are conscious in the UK that we need to work hard to deliver to the same standard within the specific context of the island.
I see this as another opportunity to speak to our members directly, ensure we have a good understanding of the issues which are important to them, and that we deliver on that”
