KPMG Raise Over ?7,500 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association

by isleofman.com 17th November 2011
KPMG has announced the total raised for its chosen ‘Charity of the Year’ – which was the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The sum was raised by KPMG staff and their supporters between September 2010 and September 2011; and the entire amount will go directly to the charity. KPMG has encouraged staff to donate their time as well as their money to various events which were organised over the course of the year. The last twelve months saw dress down days, the Santa dash, the Parish walk, and staff social nights all held to raise money for the charity. The recent KPMG Big Coin Challenge – which took place in Athol Street last month – raised over ?1,900 for MNDA in one day. This brings the grand total raised in the calendar year to over ?7500. The main purpose of MNDA is to provide equipment and care for people on the Isle of Man who have the disease. Each person’s needs vary depending on their condition and support is given as required as the disease progresses. Any funds that the charity receives, therefore, make a significant difference. The charity was chosen through a ballot among KPMG staff, which takes place every year to decide which charity to support for the twelve month period. Sue Robinson, Chairman of the Isle of Man branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, is delighted with the support that KPMG has given to the charity: “The correct equipment can make a huge difference to the quality of someone’s life who is affected by MND. KPMG has really got involved and been very dedicated to the cause, and their contribution will have a real impact on our work”. Sinead O Connor, Senior Manager at KPMG, commented: “At KPMG we believe that it is vitally important to give something back to the community within which we operate. This was the first year that we had chosen one designated charity to put all of our fundraising efforts towards, but it was a great success. It was lovely to be connected to one of the smaller charities and we felt that we really made a difference throughout the year, as well as developing some good relationships with the people who will continue to work tirelessly for the charity. Everyone is overjoyed with how much we have been able to raise and that this money will help MNDA to continue their fantastic work.” -ENDS-
