Thompson Travel 30 Toomraiders 23 by Judi Clark-Wilson
Thompson Travel lost the 1st and 3rd quarters but won the 2nd and 4th quarters. In the second quarter Thompson Travel scored 11 goals to Toomraiders 4. This was the deciding difference between the two teams.
Lesley Patterson GA for Thompson Travel continues to add a depth to the Thompson squad with her overall court awareness combined with excellent shooting stats. Lesley won POTM for Thompsons.
Newcomer for Toomraiders Hazel Wright had an outstanding match as GA. Wright with Lynsey Singer GS were prolific in the shooting circle in all but the 2nd quarter. If they can maintain some consistency during the whole match Toomraiders will have an exciting second half to the season.
The result is somewhat of a mystery only because of the age difference between the two teams. The stamina of the Thompson girls matched that of their younger counterparts, particular Janet Sayle WD and Julie Bush C. The younger and quicker Toomraiders were unable to outwit the playing strategy of the Thompson Travel veterans.
POTM Lesley Patterson for Thompson Travel and Hazel Wright for Toomraiders
Switched on Sharks - 33 v Moore Stephens Hurricanes - 13 by Judi Clark-Wilson
Moore Stephens were unfortunate not to gain 2 points in this encounter of our two new teams that have entered the Manx Netball League for the 2011/12 Season.
The shooting duo of Switched on Sharks Ali Ward GA and Amy Mussen GS illustrated how height is not necessarily a prerequisite for the shooting circle. Ward and Mussen were able to pass the ball freely between each other creating many shooting opportunities. Mussen’s accuracy was exemplary and she was a worthy recipient of player of the Match for Sharks.
Moore Stephens Hurricanes showed much potential. Their mid court players of Carly Wilson WD, Sophie Risher C and Kate Pickett WA have a sound understanding of each others game and brought the ball up court regularly. It was the dynamic defensive work of Amy Pointon GK and Kirsty Williams GD for Sharks that stopped Moore Stephens’ shooters from gaining possession in the goal circle.
Both teams need guidance on the rules of the game but as the season progresses I am sure they will gain more experience and knowledge which will benefit both sides equally.
PoTM: Amy Mussen (Switched on Sharks); Sophie Risher (Moore Stephens Hurricanes)

Thompson B – 15 v Route 1 Sparks – 12
Thompson made the most of their good start, to hold off Route 1 Sparks, in a tightly fought match. Their fifth victory in a row leaves them trailing Division two leaders by only a three point differential. Once Route 1 got in to the game, they really piled on the pressure and had Thompson on the back foot. There were some worrying moments when Thompson lost their goal defence to illness, but a quick change was enough to help them secure victory.
PoTM: Hannah Clague (Thompson); Paige Skillicorn (Route 1)
SMP Ballasalla B – 43 v PWC Manx Gems Rubies – 35
The game was much closer than the score implies, but Balla’s form around the net proved to be the difference. Balla’s confident start had Rubies’ defence working hard, from the first whistle. Rubies weren’t on the back foot for long and the proved to be more than a match for Balla, in the middle two quarters. This win moves Balla off the bottom of the table, where Rubies now find themselves.

Toomraiders – 23 v Thompson A – 30
Thompson came from behind to defeat Toomraiders, by a small margin, and put themselves within reaching distance of the top half of the Premier Division. Toomraiders looked dominating during large portions of the game, but Thompson’s surge in the final quarter was enough to push them victoriously over the finish line. Toomraiders had many of the opening chances and put their opposition under a lot of pressure. However, Thompson’s tight defense kept them in the game and proved vital in the final quarter, as they tried to pull out the defining lead.
PoTM: Hazel Wright (Toomraiders); Lesley Patterson (Thompson)
SMP Ballasalla A – 29 v C&S Joinery A – 37
C&S Joinery finally got the chance to get their own back on Balla, after last year’s cup final and become the first team to beat them, since last season. Balla came out of the traps quickly and had C&S scrambling to keep up. It wasn’t long before C&S grouped together and put up a good fight in defence. They put on some impressive work to get the ball around the Balla defence and were delighted to put themselves equal on points with Balla and Missfits, at the top of the Premier division.
PoTM: Jane Ryder (SMP Ballasalla); Sarah Corkish (C&S Joinery)
