The Island’s very own Claremont Hotel has been shortlisted for the prestigious “Hotspots – Best Design Award 2011”, as featured in the leisure industry’s leading publication, Caterer and Hotelkeeper. Competing against nine other finalists to take home the coveted title of UK Hotspot of the year, the Claremont is the only offshore establishment; with the rest of the competitors based in London, Surrey and Norfolk.
As part of an extensive renovation scheme costing within the region of an impressive ?2 million, the Claremont Hotel has been undergoing a complete upgrade of its luxury suites and reception area. The restoration project will be carried out in three phases, with the first part of the initiative, an upgrade of 20 of the hotel’s bedrooms, now complete. Designed to meet the needs of the modern business traveller, each room features state-of-the-art technology including iPod docks and Blue-Ray players, with the sleeping facilities consisting of specialist ‘Tempur’ pressure relieving mattresses as well as ‘Hungarian Goose Down’ pillows. To receive a nomination for the initial phase of the design is an impressive feat for the hotel, especially as the Claremont is also the only entrant to be shortlisted out of hundreds of other applicants for the bedroom category.
Mark Wilson, Managing Director of Sleepwell Hotels commented on the nomination: “As one of the Island’s most long-standing hotels, it was important that we maintained our image within the Manx community whilst taking the chance to try something different. Clearly our investment paid off, and we are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as one of the finalists for the Hotspots design award. We are up against some big names in the hotel industry including The Varsity Hotel, Dukes Hotel and The White Oak. For The Claremont to be considered among so many top players has really inspired us to continue delivering the high standards our customers expect. Now it’s up to you to help put the Isle of Man on the map and vote for the Claremont Hotel. All it takes is a few clicks and we would really appreciate your support.”
The last stage of the project is expected to reach completion early next year; with the hotel receiving a huge design overhaul to its lounge and reception areas. Incorporating a contemporary feel, it is hoped that the reputation of the Claremont Hotel will spread overseas to become internationally recognised as one of the Island’s leading accommodation providers.
