Making a Christmas wish is helping The Children’s Centre continue to provide half-term fun and games across the Island. The charity is creating a ‘Wish Wall’ at The Strand Shopping Centre made up of boxes created by school children and anyone who wants to support The Children’s Centre’s Out2Play scheme.
Michelle O’Malley, Fundraising Manager at The Children's Centre, said the Wish Wall scheme was open to anyone - but to start off the campaign the focus has been on encouraging schools to take part. She said:
“We’re giving out Wish Wall kits which can then be made up into boxes with Christmas wishes to Santa written on them. But we are also encouraging children to think of others when they write their Christmas wishes. Once they have made their Wish Wall box, we ask the children to do good deeds for their families and show Santa that they are good boys and girls and deserve lots of lovely presents. Then, if their parents and relatives want to thank them for their good deeds, we’re asking them to put a donation in the Wish Wall box. When children are shopping with their parents and grandparents they can have fun trying to pick out which box they made. All of the proceeds will help us to fund our Out2Play events which this year were attended by more than 4,000 children.”
So far, children from four schools have signed up to take part - Anagh Coar, Onchan, Bunscoill Ghaelgagh and Fairfield - but more are being urged to make their own Wish Wall boxes. Anyone - young or old - who wants to make a Wish Wall box can collect a kit from The Children’s Centre on Woodbourne Road, Douglas.
