A fashion show held at Centre 21 in Douglas has raised a total of ?2,000 for Britannia International’s charity of the year Manx Mencap and clothing store M&Co’s chosen charities Dreamcatcher Appeal & Anti-Cancer.
The fashion show was organised by Britannia International and M&Co who supplied all the clothes for the event.
The models, aged between three and 60 years old, had great fun visiting the store the week before the show to choose their outfits, and they all looked fantastic on the night.
Mark Beresford, managing director of Britannia International, joined the models on the catwalk, along with colleagues from local Co-operative Foodstores, Port St Mary WI, Hospice, Manx Mencap and children of staff and friends from Britannia International.
Special thanks go to the Co-operative for donating the refreshments for the evening, along with a Fair Trade hamper for the raffle and raising ?500 towards the total. Thanks are also due to compere Wendy Campbell, A3 Marquees for decorations and all the people who helped out on the night.
Britannia International staff have been raising funds for Manx Mencap during 2011 by various means, and the charity has decided to use the money towards refurbishing 22 community homes. These allow people with learning disabilities to live independently of their parents. It is hoped that a start can be made on the refurbishment programme before Christmas.
