Entries for next year’s Manx Telecom Parish Walk open on December 1st and Manx Telecom mobile customers who enter the Parish Walk before the end of January will receive ?5 off their entry fee. Race organisers are hoping to see a record number taking part in 2012. A total of 1,753 entrants signed up for this year’s event - the highest ever total in the event’s long history - and it’s hoped that another record will be set next year.
A new Corporate Challenge category for teams of four is being introduced for the first Manx Telecom-sponsored Parish Walk. All four team members must be bona fide employees of the same company, and no team can have more than one member who has previously completed the full 85-mile Parish Walk. There will still be an overall team competition with the rule that no more than two of the four team members have previously finished the full Parish Walk course. David Smith, Manx Telecom Marketing Director, said:
“We’re very proud to sponsor the Parish Walk, the level of participation and enthusiasm which it generates each year is a wonderful example of the Island’s community spirit. Giving our mobile customers an early sign-up discount is a great way to encourage what we hope will be another record year. The new Corporate Challenge will provide another way for people to take part and, hopefully, persuade many new entrants to participate in the Parish Walk for the first time.”
The 2012 Manx Telecom Parish Walk takes place on Saturday June 23 - but entries open on December 1 to give everyone plenty of time to enter. Just go to www.parishwalk.com for both individual and team entries. All participants - including those for the team and Corporate Challenge events - must enter individually. To enter the team events, entrants simply put the name of their team or Corporate Challenge team on the online entry form. Entry is ?30 per person which includes a Manx Telecom Parish Walk tee-shirt, goodie bag, and a ticket to the prize presentation.
Race Director Ray Cox said:
“Even though the Manx Telecom Parish Walk is seven months away, we would encourage anyone who wants to enter to do so as soon as possible. We’re hoping to set another record for the number of entries next year, and with additions to the format such as the Corporate Challenge we hope to attract many new participants.”
