Community Choir Plans Christmas Concerts

by isleofman.com 25th November 2011
The Department of Education and Children’s Friday Lunchtime Choir is planning two concerts this Christmas. The 15-minute performances of Christmas music will take place on Friday 9th December and Friday 16th December (both at 1.30pm) at the choir’s regular rehearsal venue, the Salvation Army Citadel in Lord Street, Douglas. Admission to both concerts is free. However, there will be retiring collections for the Salvation Army (on the 9th) and ME Support IoM (on the 16th). The community choir, formed and conducted by Maggie Richardson, Head of Music Service for the Department of Education and Children, welcomes all comers, regardless of experience. Now in its third season, it is going from strength to strength, with more than 100 members, although not all of them make it to every rehearsal. It meets at 1.15pm every Friday during term-time and sessions last 30 minutes, so members can take part in their lunch hours. Joining is free and members contribute 30p a week towards the use of the venue. The first rehearsal of the spring term will take place on Friday 13th January 2012. For further information about the choir, contact the Music Centre on 686555, email music.admin@doe.sch.im or visit the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Friday-Lunchtime-Choir/156393334395594 Ends
