Crossroads Caring for Carers Isle of Man won the coveted Queen of Charity Shops trophy at ‘Fashion Face Off’, the charity’s fundraising event on Saturday night (26 November).
The Villa Marina Arcade saw Age Concern, British Red Cross, Crossroads Caring for Carers, Hospice, Manx Mencap, MSPCA, Oxfam and Save the Children compete to win the title showcasing the very best of their outfits from each of their Charity Shops. The event let the audience vote for their favourite collection in a Gok Wan style twist.
The event followed a theme with the Isle of Man College showcasing outfits created from rag donations a la Gok. Trousers were turned in tops, skirts became dresses, jackets were turned into ball gowns and the finale saw a wedding dress made from donated baby grows come down the catwalk.
The evening's entertainment also saw Gena's Dance Academy and David Lyons sing several Michael Buble classics after winning Manx Stars in their Eyes 2011 with a similar rendition. David also later went on to compere the evening with Rebecca Lawrence of Taylorian Productions Wizard of OZ.
The evening raised over ?3,000 for organisers Crossroads Caring for Carers as well as proceeds from an auction of the outfits that had appeared in the show being split by Charity Shops involved.
Alex Wilson, Event Organiser, thanked Barclays Wealth, Alliance and Leicester, Zurich, Isle of Man Bank and Davisons for their support of the event as well as ELS IoM, Island Audio and P.A. Hire, the Sewing Room, Glitter Mine : Henna Mine, Emma MacDonald, Cosmetic Medical Centre, Mode 7, Barbara Coney Mua and JM Hair Salon. Alex added her thanks to models and the backstage team and hinted of a Fashion Face Off : Rematch next year.
