‘Love Where You Live’: New Kerbside Collection Service Campaign December 2-9

by isleofman.com 30th November 2011
A week-long promotion of the new Douglas and Braddan kerbside collection service is to take place from December 2 to 9. Organised by Douglas Borough Council, which is funding and operating the service in partnership with Braddan Commissioners, the ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign will include a display on Saturday December 3 from 10am to 4pm in Regent Street, Douglas, adjacent to the post office, where a kerbside collection vehicle will be stationed and officers from the Council’s waste management section will be on hand to provide information and householders will have the opportunity to sign up for the service and take away collection schedules for their area. The Council’s chairman of public works Councillor David Ashford said: ‘Douglas and Braddan are committed to providing a kerbside collection service which although it requires a substantial investment from both local authorities the more households the service attracts the greater the long-term cost savings and the less demand will be placed on the rates. ‘We shall also be making presentations to a number of schools in Douglas and Braddan as young people are especially receptive to environmental issues and we hope they may be able to promote the benefits of the service to their parents. And in a move to make the service easy to access we are also making kerbside collection calendars available online at www.douglas.gov.im.’ Braddan Commissioners’ chairman Margaret Hodge said: ‘We are pleased to continue our partnership with Douglas Borough Council to offer what we view as an essential service that not only provides environmental benefits but also generates income for both local authorities through the sale of recyclables, thereby helping reduce the burden on our ratepayers. It is against this background Braddan Commissioners are pleased to support the campaign and I would urge all those households who have yet to sign up for the service to do so at the earliest opportunity.’ For full details of the kerbside collection service, telephone 696450 or email enquiries@douglas.gov.im ENDS
