Jurby Stores To Open Soon

by isleofman.com 30th November 2011
Since the previous tenant decided to cease trading earlier this year, the Department of Social Care has been actively marketing the Jurby Store premises with the assistance of local estate agents Black Grace Cowley. The property includes both the retail shop unit and adjacent residential bungalow. The Department was keen to find someone who could offer an excellent retail experience and good business acumen together with the ability to offer a quality retail facility for the community of Jurby. After a significant number of enquiries for the lease, the Department is pleased to announce that the new tenants are Mr and Mrs Gubby of Kulmet Ltd. Minister for Social Care Hon Chris Robertshaw MHK stated: “I appreciate that the people of Jurby have been without their local shop for some months now, but in view of the problems encountered by the previous tenant we wanted to ensure that a viable long term business could be established to serve the people of Jurby, as they deserve. I am very hopeful that the new tenants we have found are capable of meeting this need, especially if the shop at Jurby is able to meet the standards they have achieved in their other premises.” Mr and Mrs Gubby currently run the Ballaugh “One Stop Shop” and their son Mr Simon Gubby will be running the Jurby stores. Simon has worked with his parents at the “One Stop Shop” for many years. Mrs Liz Gubby commented that: “I hope the store will be up and running by Monday 5th December 2011. The premises are currently being revamped in preparation for the opening. We also intend having a celebratory opening day for members of the local community. The re-opening of the shop will mean that our customers won’t have to travel too far for their groceries and the post office will continue to run as well.” Further details of the opening event will be advertised by the Gubby family in the local media. They plan to run the Jurby store similarly to their Ballaugh shop. There will be locally sourced farm produce including fresh eggs, honey, biscuits as well as a wide range of general groceries. The intention is to open the store from 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 4pm on Sundays. ENDS
