by isleofman.com 6th December 2011
The Hodgson Loom Gallery, Laxey Woollen Mill, hosted Crossroads Caring for Carers Charity Art Auction last Friday (2 December 2011). Artworks donated by over 30 local artists were auctioned in aid of the charity following a two week Exhibition in Laxey. Visitors to the Gallery were able to view artworks from local artists and photographers such as David Byrne, Jenny Kissack, Bryony Harrison, Judith Thomson, Simon Park, Stephen Nagle and Richard Kinley. The number of artists working with different mediums created a varied Exhibition, from oil paintings to pastels, photography to watercolour and ink and glasswork to lino prints, there was something for everyone. Chrystals Auctions hosted the auction, which raised nearly ?3,000 for Crossroads. The funds raised will go directly towards providing meaningful respite to those caring for someone with an illness, disability, frailty, substance abuse or mental health problem on the Isle of Man. Alex Wilson, Event Co-ordinator, thanked all artists who contributed to making the event such a success. Alex also thanked Julia Ashby Smyth, Curator at the Hodgson Loom Gallery, for her beautiful curating of the Exhibition and urged members of the public to visit the Gallery, which is now hosting the Wood Competition.
