Wedding Flowers Spend Increases in 2010

by isleofman.com 6th December 2011
According to recent research, the demand for wedding flowers has increased in the past year – with a shift of priorities being one of the contributing factors behind this statistic. Over the past 18 months, various data has been compiled to assess what features are considered essential when planning modern day weddings; with both brides-to-be and newlyweds being interviewed on their preferences in the organisation of a wedding. Despite the wide age range of those interviewed, the responses were very much based around current trends. Common issues to be taken into consideration included: what type of flowers are you looking to use? Is there a particular style/theme to match that of your wedding? Whilst the list (and costs) may be endless, fortunately the most important factors in selecting a wedding florist can be broken down into three categories: satisfaction, affordability, and upfront pricing. Mark Hotchkiss, Head of the Floristry Division at Robinson’s, explains the significance behind these essential aspects: “The type of service researched showed strong signs that the marketplace is changing, especially when customers nowadays are more concerned about the affordability, overall satisfaction and upfront pricing details. Previously, affordability and pricing would have had a lower priority with more emphasis on individuality of design – but with many couples placing more importance on what comes after the wedding instead of the day itself, people are cutting back in order to provide for their future.” UK statistics collected over the past few years by Conde Nast Brides suggest otherwise, showing that the average spend for wedding flowers has gradually risen, with costs in 2007 estimated at ?459.25, costs in 2008 climbing to ?520, eventually reaching the figure of ?705 in 2010. Whilst figures vary quite considerably, the Isle of Man would certainly be above average due to supply and demand; especially with such a high number of florists operating on such a small Island. However, not to worry if these figures seem out of your price range; Mark has some helpful tips in making sure you find the floral decorations for your wedding: “See what’s in season and ask your florist for recommendations. By carefully selecting the right flower arrangements, you can make a small vase look full by filling it with single types for a smart and bold appearance. Another clever idea would be to get your florist to place plants in eye-catching containers, as a means of decorating the tables at the reception venue. ” For more words of wedding flowers wisdom, be sure to visit Robinson’s for a huge range of floral ideas.
